Cecily's History

An elegant hand written script flows across the paper..

I was born to farmers on the mainland, the oldest of 12 children. My parents were loving, kind people; my siblings grew to be playful and loud, yet respectful and loving. They did farm chores - my main responsibility was to look after the children. It was then that I learned the value of patience and serenity, when I could find them. As I got older, they were easier to keep.

The youngers were always getting sick or hurt. Mum taught me some basic healing, the type of stuff every parent learns. But I enjoyed it so much that I started to study on my own. Mum sent me off to study with our local Healing Priest, and I learned tons of things about herbs and healing from him. No matter how much he taught me, though, I always wanted to learn more. He sensed my inner calling and arranged for me to move to the city of Barremarrea, to live and study with the monks there.

The monastery in the city was huge, and I felt overwhelmed in such a large place. I missed the closeness of my family. One day, while trying to get better acquainted with my new home, I came across a small temple dedicated to Senrania. I was drawn to the warmth and peace of the temple, and spent most of my spare time there. Days were dedicated to hleping the sick and indigent who had come to the monastery for help.

Mornings were for studying. But the evenings... I spent many hours in the temple, drenched with peace and tranquility.

One month, a plague struck, devastating the city. The monastery was cluttered with the sick and dying. We were able to handle it for a while, until the monks began to fall ill. I tried so hard to figure out a cure, to help the sick recover, but it was beyond me. All around me, my new family was falling. I grew desperate. When I could take no more, I ran to Senrania's Temple and vowed to dedicate my life to serving her, if only she would give me the means to help the dying. At that moment, Senrania appeared before me. I was stunned. She told me that she had been watching me over the years, seeing me learn and grow. She said that she was impressed by my calm good nature and loving heart. I was speechless, but I knew, then, that she would help.

Senrania then gave me the slightest touch of her power, enough to heal the plague victims. It changed me forever, as she knew it would. I became quite powerful; healing the remaining victims was simple. However, I was unable to bring back those Monks already lost, and the hundred remaining cried for their losses. Senrania gathered their tears, replacing the sorrow with peace. When the plague had disappeared, Senrania called me to her side and explained that I was now to be her
avatar. She said that because of that touch of power, I was stronger and more gifted than any other mortal in the city. However, she wished me to remain humble. Taking the tears she had gathered from the Monks, she fashioned them into a chair for me, as a mount. This I was to use every day, it's purpose being to remind me of those I was unable to help without the aid of Senrania.

I was then told that the price for saving the city was high. I must now leave all that I knew; leave the mainland forever and prove to her, every day the dedication I had sworn in desperation. She sent me to Cosrin, a small, relatively unknown island, and told me to establish my home there. To live and work with the Monks, and all people, using the power she had given me and constantly striving to gain knowledge and wisdom.

To this end, I have moved into the Guild of Monks in the town of Moorgate. Thankfully, it is not so large as the monastery, and the Monks are warmhearted people. I feel quite at home.
