Hirobi's History

Into the calmest moments, the times betwixt the glories of sunrise and the cool entrance of evening, the ink of destiny can scribe its most profound poems. It was one such moment, in the town of Stormport, that saw the bringing into the world of a baby boy. His tanned skin and elvish features bespoke his drow heritage but the rest of him bore the mark of his human mother. His mother named him Hirobi, which means "Noble Heart" for she saw the gentle wisdom that, even as a babe, glinted in his eyes. He grew up loved by his mother, though he learned early not to question her about his father. He hated the haunted sadness that entered her eyes whenever he tried to broach the subject and soon left her to her secrets. Life was often difficult for Hirobi. The other townspeople tended to regard him with wariness for his obvious heritage and his serious demeanor made him apart from the few children who were allowed to play with him. Through all things though, Hirobi found his solace in the written word. The boys craving for knowledge was boundless and he read anything he could get his hands on. More and more as he grew he withdrew into his world of words and scrolls. Another change was taking place in the boy, however. He began to notice that he had a special way with beasts, both good and evil. He could feel the use of magic when it was nearby. He did not understand these things and tended to just try to ignore them. But all things will out as they say and Hirobi's abilities were no different. During a hunting trip with some other young men of Stormport, they were beset by a huge dragon. The others ran in fear but something about the fearsome beast drew Hirobi to it. With a strange fascination, Hirobi approached the dragon, who seemed to feel the same fascination with him. Speaking softly, Hirobi commanded the dragon to leave them in peace....and the dragon obeyed. The others were dumbfounded and eyed Hirobi with almost the same fear in their eyes that they had for the dragon. Hirobi, excited by this discovery of his powers, began learning how to control it. Although to his face he was still called Hirobi, another name was attached to him in awed whispers....

Dragon Lord.

Then came a day when Hirobi found himself facing a new trial, the death of his beloved mother. Taking his younger brother, Malic, whom he loved greatly, they ended up living on the streets, surviving on whatever they could find. Because of the hardships that destiny had laid before them, Malic's heart grew resentful and cold. The only love that burned in his heart was for his brother, Hirobi. In time a monk found the orphaned pair and brought them to live with him in the Monk's Guild. Malic, angry at life in general, refuses to follow Hirobi into what he considers a path of weakness and the two brother part paths, though they still kept in touch. It was during his time with the monks that Hirobi began to more fully understand his powers and how to realize their fullest potential through the strict disciplines of the monk's ways. In his free time, Hirobi studied the lore of the realm and spent many nights up late in the guild library.

One night as he was wandering the market, he was approached by a strange, dark priest. The priest spoke to him of things that no stranger should know; Of his mother, and of a father he knew nothing of. This intrigued the ever curious monk and he began to meet with the priest regularly to learn more of the things he wished to find out about his past. After many of these meetings, the priest finally told Hiro that he was a Priest of Loki and it was his destiny to follow his Lord. Hiro told the priest that he would never accept the dark ways. Outraged, the priest stormed off and told Hiro that one of the brothers will fufill this destiny; that it is in their blood to do so. Shortly after this, while laboring over a particularly difficult manuscript over a drink in one of the local taverns, the door opened and in walked a beautiful woman. Looking up, he is amazed to see that noone in the tavern even notices the exquisite creature walking among them. He is even more amazed when the woman sits down at the table with him. She says hello and continues to tell Hiro that she is the Goddess Andaria. Chuckling in disbelief, Hirobi dismisses the woman and goes back to his study of the scroll. Andaria grinning and seeing he is all that she expected, and speaks but a word and wisks them both away to her library. Hirobi finds himself standing amidst the largest library that he has ever seen, scrolls and parchments all around him. Still in complete shock, Hiro looks upon Andaria with chagrin and offers an apology for his rudeness. Andaria, smiling gently on him, speaks softly. "Hirobi, you have great power in you, and still more can I give you. I wish you to come here and be the Keeper of my Scrolls. I wish to teach you and train you. All that you see is yours...to study and to learn, as well as everything new that comes to us. Do you accept Hirobi?" She smiled and watched the young monks eyes light up as he gazed at the vast library. 'I will glady come and serve you, Lady Andaria. I will be the Keeper of the Scrolls, with your blessing." So Hirobi came to live and serve the Goddess Andaria and gained great understanding of his powers and of the powers that she helped to awake in him.
